Summer Hacks

Pause! Imagine this:

You are at home, sitting on your couch with a face mask on and wet hair in a towel. All of the sudden, you get a text from your best friend; “ Hey we’re going to the beach today, i’ll be there in 5”. You gasp, realizing you haven’t shaved in months and still own the same bathing suit from fourth grade. In a dash to your bathroom, you pull out every summer product you own, slathering lotions, creams, and ointments while spraying perfumes on simultaneously, in hopes to look summer ready.

Ladies! Summer is on the way and we must be fully prepared to greet the season with our best hello! Here are 5 ways to avoid the #we’regoingonabeachtriptodaygetready scenario. One given way to prepare for summer is to shave away the winter and lather on the summer. In other words, attack your legs with the razor...Okay, maybe that is a bit much but nothing says,”I’m ready for summer”, like a nice shave. One key to getting the smooth and silky skin we all want in life is exfoliation. This magical method causes your hairs to lay straight up so that it once the razor is applied, the hair is cut off from the very bottom, leaving no clingy attachments from the cold winter season on your skin.

Another effective way to prepare yourself for the new summer sun is to treat your skin. It is a common problem for the skin to be dry, patchy and even flaky after a cold winter season. One easy and simple solution to rejuvenate your skin is by applying a specific mask, moisturizers, and cleansers with certain qualities. Such as brightening, acne fighting, and moisturizing traits. By doing a facial mask and/or scrub, once a week you add more routine into your schedule which is something all skin loves! Using a face wash cleanser and toner of the same brand is also a great idea for adding a greater level of the system to your skin care.

Along the same lines of skincare, another great way to prepare for Summer Break is to use sunscreen. I know the goal of summer is to earn a nice, clean tan, but instead, some come back looking like a very ripe tomato. How do we solve this, or help prevent it? Use SPF in everything you can: cosmetics, skincare, lotions and such. By doing this you treat your skin for the hot summer weather. With that said, let’s avoid the fifty shades of red scenario and apply our sunscreen.

Hot weather is a simple indication of summer that most look forward to, however, there is no better reminder that winter was just a week ago than a closet full of thick wool sweaters, heavy duty jeans, and tall knee-high boots. That is the perfect time to do what I like to call a “Wardrobe Purge”. Go out with the old: Say goodbye to all winter items for the season; Come in with the new: Welcome back your spring/summer pieces from either your attic or nearest TJMAX store...Whichever option floats your boat.

The last, but definitely not least, choice of preparation for summer is to smile more. Cliche, I know, and this should honestly be done in every season, but this season especially. Summer is a time to treasure the finer things in greater light. It is the time to be spontaneous and open-minded which calls for happiness. Summer brings congratulations to all the hard workers, a well-needed break to all the stressed. It should be a time to find happiness in the little things so as a constant reminder to yourself, that life is more than just a mundane task,  just smile.
